Corgarff Castle

Most visitors to Corgarff Castle arrive by car, as public transport options are limited in this rural area. The castle is easily accessible for those with camera equipment, making it a popular spot for photographers seeking to capture its historic beauty.

Parking:

• The nearest parking is in a small lay-by along the B976 road, approximately 200 metres from the castle entrance. This spot can accommodate a few vehicles, but it is advisable to arrive early, especially during weekends or holidays, to secure a space. The walk from the lay-by to the castle takes about 5 minutes along a well-trodden path.
• Alternatively, there is a larger car park at the nearby Corgarff Castle Visitor Centre, which is about 1 mile away. The walk from here to the castle is along a country lane and takes approximately 20 minutes.

Access:

• The path to the castle is mostly gravel and grass, with some uneven sections, so sturdy walking shoes are recommended. There are no steps, gates, or stiles to navigate, making it relatively accessible for most visitors. However, be mindful of muddy areas after rain, particularly near the castle walls.
• Corgarff Castle is situated on Open Access land, allowing photographers to explore the surrounding areas without restrictions; however, please respect the natural environment and avoid disturbing any wildlife.
• For the best photographic results, aim to visit during the golden hours of sunrise or sunset, and consider the seasonal changes that can enhance your shots. A tripod will be essential for capturing long exposure images, especially in low-light conditions. Keep an eye out for livestock in the fields, and be cautious of the weather, as it can change rapidly in this part of Scotland.
