Castle Stalker

Most visitors arrive at Castle Stalker by car, making their way along the scenic routes of Argyll and Bute. The castle is best photographed from the surrounding shores or elevated viewpoints, particularly during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset.

Parking:

• The nearest parking option is the Castle Stalker viewpoint car park, located approximately 1.5 miles from the castle. This small, informal car park offers space for a handful of vehicles and is accessible via a well-maintained single-track road. The walk to the main photo spot is around 10-15 minutes, taking you along a gravel path that leads to an elevated viewpoint overlooking the castle.
• An alternative option is roadside parking along the A828, roughly 2 miles away. This requires a longer walk of about 30 minutes along the road, which may not be ideal for carrying extensive camera kit.

Access:

• The path from the viewpoint car park is generally good but can be uneven in sections, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Be cautious of any muddy patches, especially after rainfall.
• There are no specific restrictions for accessing the viewpoint, but it is essential to respect the surrounding private land. The area is open access, allowing photographers to explore various angles along the shoreline.
• Photographers should be aware of the tides, as the water levels around the castle can change, affecting the composition. Arriving early is advisable to secure a good spot, especially during busy summer months. Additionally, be mindful of changing weather conditions, which can dramatically impact lighting and visibility. Stay safe and alert for any livestock in the area.
